Anglian Three Peaks team raises £8,000 for Brain Tumour UK

(10th October 2012)

A team of 10 intrepid adventurers from Anglian Home Improvements has raised over £8,000 for the Brain Tumour UK charity by tackling the gruelling Three Peaks Challenge. This demanding expedition involves scaling the highest peaks in Scotland, England and Wales within just 24 hours.

After almost five months of planning and training, the Anglian Home Improvements team climbed the demanding heights of Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon on 28th September to raise vital funds for its chosen charity Brain Tumour UK, which provides research and support for those affected by brain tumours.

The explorers battled changing weather conditions, including rain, sunshine, heavy winds and even a hailstorm, covering a total of 23.5 miles (38 kilometres) on foot, up and down the Three Peaks. An additional ten hours’ driving time and a series of injuries along the way, on top of a lack of sleep and real food, ensured this was not a feat to be taken lightly.

Training & Development Manager Nicola Lankfer, who helped to organise the Challenge, says, “It was a real emotional rollercoaster. I think all of us underestimated the magnitude of the challenge before we got there but the team spirit really shone though – everyone pulled together and made decisions as a team and stuck together through thick and thin. Many of us didn’t know each other before we set off and it has really brought different areas of the business together, from director level through to people from the IT department, product design team and the call centre. The camaraderie was amazing throughout the four days we were away and we’ve been able to raise a fantastic amount of money for Brain Tumour UK.”

Community Fundraiser for Brain Tumour UK, Nicky Turner, says, “The 3 Peaks Challenge is a major undertaking and the experience of the Anglian Home Improvements team clearly shows that! Couple the actual experience of the climb with the hard work that has gone into both training and fundraising for it and you begin to get an idea of what these wonderful people have done for Brain Tumour UK. The whole team here at the charity are amazed and delighted and we really appreciate the support of Anglian in helping us continue with our work in providing support, funding research and raising awareness in a bid to change things for the better for everyone affected by a brain tumour. And as the charity contact for Anglian, I am really looking forward to helping with their other plans while we continue as their chosen charity of the year!”

Anglian’s total fundraising target for Brain Tumour UK is £15,000 by the end of March 2013 and a number of other events are being planned in order to reach this, including a Christmas quiz night, a Valentine’s Day Ball and regular ‘dress down’ days at the company’s customer contact centre.
