Anglian Home Improvements Pledges Support for World’s Biggest Coffee Morning

(26th September 2014)

Employees of Anglian Home Improvements up and down the country will be supporting the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, organised by Macmillan Cancer Support, on Friday 26 September, with all monies raised being matched by the business.

Anglian’s head office has sent a specially prepared coffee morning kit to all of its installation teams and departments, providing everything needed to support the fundraising activity including coffee, cream, biscuits, posters, balloons, cake flags and tablecloths. Anglian is encouraging staff to get baking so their cakes can be sold at their local coffee morning to help raise funds for the cancer charity.

Melanie McDonald, Head of Marketing and Communications at Anglian Home Improvements, said, “A number of our employees contacted head office to ask if they could hold a coffee morning to help raise money for Macmillan. As it’s such a great cause, we decided to make it a national initiative for Anglian Home Improvements, giving all staff an opportunity to get involved. We are pleased that around 3,000 of our staff are taking part across 100 locations. Most of us have a family member, work colleague or friend who has suffered from this cruel disease, and the Macmillan nurses are real heroes, helping those affected and their families to get though a very difficult time, so we felt it was important that everyone at Anglian had an opportunity to do their bit to help.”

Lynda Thomas, Director of Fundraising at Macmillan Cancer Support, said, “We’re absolutely thrilled Anglian Home Improvements are taking part in our World’s Biggest Coffee Morning so a huge thank you to all the staff for getting involved and supporting Macmillan. Every day 900 people across the UK hear the devastating words ‘you have cancer’ and by 2020 one in two people will receive a cancer diagnosis at some point in their lives. It’s Macmillan’s aim to reach and improve the lives of all of these people, right from the point of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. We can’t do it on our own so we’re delighted to have Anglian’s support to help make a real difference to people affected by cancer.”

The World’s Biggest Coffee Morning is Macmillan’s biggest fundraising event, where people across the UK hold a coffee morning to raise money for people living with cancer. In 2013, 154,000 people signed up, raising a record £20million.

At the launch of this year’s campaign, Stephen Fry was unveiled as the person with whom most people would like to have a coffee date. The much-loved comedian, writer and presenter signed ten copies of his best-selling books for Anglian Home Improvements at the launch, which will be auctioned at their Macmillan events to raise further funds for the charity.
